Students join protests

LAHORE: About 500 Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) students dressed in black rallied on the campus against the enforcement of emergency and arrest of their teachers. The teachers were arrested during a meeting of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan on November 4. Those arrested included Dr Ali Cheema, Bilal Hassan Minto (LUMS), Saleema Hashmi (BNU School of Visual Arts dean), Nasreen Shah and Samina Rehman (Lahore Grammar School). LUMS teachers and students spoke on the occasion. They also shouted anti-Musharraf slogans. About 35 Law Department students also participated in the lawyers protest on The Mall. Some students alleged that a television channel tried to cover the protest on the campus, but was refused entry by the LUMS administration. LUMS teacher Dr Rasool Bux Rais told Daily Times that the students had organised a peaceful demonstration against the imposition of “martial law”. “Some faculty members also joined the students,” he said, “We are against the steps taken by the government to put curbs on human rights and the media.” Dr Faisal Bari, another LUMS teacher, said the students had planned to start a signatory campaign against the imposition of emergency. He said the faculty members would join them in the campaign. LAHORE: Students and faculty members of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and FAST-National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences demonstrated on their campuses against the imposition of emergency in Pakistan. The demonstrations were peaceful and were monitored by the college administrations and the police.

The police cordoned off the two universities and did not allow the protesters to step out. Police also beat a few students at FAST.

Beaconhouse National University (BNU) students are scheduled to observe today (Thursday) Black Day against the emergency.

LUMS protest: About 800 LUMS students and faculty members gathered at the Sports Complex and spoke against the emergency. The students then marched around the campus shouting slogans against the government regime and General Pervez Musharraf, the imposition of emergency and the promulgation of anti-media ordinances.

They also displayed placards and banners reading “LUMS Against Martial Law”, “Go Musharraf Go” and “No to Martial Law”.

The protesters wanted to take the rally off campus, but university teachers and vice chancellor Dr Zahoorul Hassan stopped them. The police had cordoned off the university early morning and had warned that any protester who stepped out would be beaten up.

LUMS authorities had also banned the entry of unidentified people, including reporters, on campus. The police beat a few reporters who insisted on wanting to go in. Students sat on the ground inside the main gate with their mouths taped. Some students alleged that undercover policemen were keeping an eye on the protestors. The LUMS security team was also present.

LUMS students had also protested on Monday after their teachers were arrested from a meeting to discuss the emergency held at the office of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.

FAST-NUCES: A large number of FAST students protested on campus against the emergency. They shouted anti-government and anti-Musharraf slogans. They also denounced the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) and ordinances that clamped down on the media.

The police cordoned off the university early morning. Senior police officers entered the university and urged the administration to hand over the protesting students. The police also kept the university’s main gate closed. After the protest, police seniors met the FAST administration and urged them to give an undertaking that the university would not allow its students to hold more protests.

IJT protest at public colleges: The Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) also protested at public colleges against the emergency. They shouted slogans against the emergency and hoisted black flags on the college buildings as a sign of mourning.

Students of the Punjab University; Government Science College, Wahdat Road; and Islamia College, Civil Lines, took to the roads and briefly protested. They demanded Gen Musharraf step down and take off his uniform.

Student protests enter third day

ISLAMABAD: Students of Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) and International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) continued their protest on the third consecutive day on Wednesday condemning the proclamation of state of emergency in the country.

The faculty members also joined the students. The protestors wore black armbands. They remained inside the universities shouting anti-government slogans and demanding independence of the judiciary.

They said the suspension of fundamental rights and ban on media were the stimuli for them to hold protests in their academic institutions.

Over 300 students gathered in the QAU and demanded early restoration of the constitution. They said President Gen Pervez Musharraf had imposed emergency to prolong his rule.

Hundreds of students and faculty members gathered in the IIUI in protest. They observed black day on Wednesday. “Live and let live,” they demanded of the government. They said the state of emergency would derail the country from the path to development.

They condemned torture, police cases and arrests of politicians, lawyers and their colleagues for holding protests. Some IIUI were arrested on Monday and released after demonstrations. Students of the IIUI Department of Sharia and Law joined the protesting lawyers in the district courts.

Students of different institutions also staged a protest demonstration on the premises of Islamabad District Courts in the afternoon. They shouted slogans against the government and proclamation of emergency by Musharraf.

They marched in and around the courts and condemned the suspension of fundamental rights. They asked the government to reinstate the chief justice (CJ) for the sake of independence of judiciary.

They raised slogans in favour of the deposed CJ and vowed to continue their struggle till the end of the state of emergency. Heavy police ringed the QAU, IIUI and district courts to avoid any untoward incident. No student was arrested.

PU STUDENTS: Punjab University Law College students on Monday staged a protest demonstration against imposition of state of emergency in the country.

Students wore black armbands and hoisted black flags and banners chanting protesting slogans at the university main gate and different departments.

They demanded martial law be removed, democracy revived and Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry reinstated.

Jamiat Talba Islam Nazim Muhammad Ayub said attack on the judiciary was highly condemnable and students would never accept “unconstitutional action by an unconstitutional president”.

بالکل کل میں پارلیمنٹ کے سامنے ہی تھا جہاں پی پی پی کی پوری ایک گاڑی کھڑی تھی جس میں چند خواتین نے نعرے لگائے۔

ہمت علی آپ کی آنکھیں کیا ابھی بھی نہیں کھلیں ، بی بی جیسی مکار اور دغا باز عورت کے پیچھے لگ کر کیوں ملک اور قوم کا بیڑہ غرق کر رہے ہیں۔ بینظیر صرف عوام کو دکھانے کے لیے ڈرامہ کر رہی ہے اور مشرف پر پریشر ڈال رہی ہے کہ نام نہاد الیکشن کروا کر اسے وزیر اعظم بنا دے۔ قوم کو یہ دو نمبر الیکشن نہیں چاہیے جس میں مشرف صدر اور بینظیر وزیراعظم بن کر امریکہ کی چاکری کریں۔

اگر الیکشن شفاف ہوئے تو پی پی پی ہی جیتے گی۔ یہ ایک حقیقت ہے۔
میں‌یہ تو نہیں‌کہہ رہا کہ اپ اپنی ایکٹیویٹی روک کر پی پی پی کے عوامی احتجاج میں‌شامل ہوجائیں‌۔ اپ اپنی احتجاجی کام جاری رکھیں‌۔ میں‌تو یہ سمجھا تھا کہ یہاں‌احتجاج کی سب خبریں لگیں گی۔
میں‌یہ دیکھ رہا ہوں کہ اس وقت اگر کوئی کچھ کرسکتا ہے تو وہ پی پی پی ہے۔ چاہے وہ دباو ڈال کر حاصل کرے چاہے احتجاج کرکے۔ باقی سب دھول ہے۔
صرف یہ عرض کررہاہوں‌کچھ دنوںسے۔ کیا حقیقت دیکھ کر اعتراف کرنا برا ہے؟

یہ حقیقت ہے کہ پی پی چاہے تو زبردست احتجاج برپا کر سکتی ہے اور مشرف کو ہلا کر رکھ سکتی ہے مگر اس کے لیے اخلاص ضروری ہے جو کہ بدقسمتی سے اس میں نہیں ورنہ اب تک وہ حکومت کو گھٹنے ٹیکنے پر مجبور کر چکی ہوتی۔ بی بی فضل الرحمان سے بات چیت سے انکار کرتی رہی ہے اور ٹھیک انکار کرتی رہی ہے سب جانتے ہیں فضل الرحمان نامی ہوس کا پجاری کس قماش کا انسان (‌انسان کہنا انسانیت کی توہین ہے ایسے شخص کے لیے (‌ ہے مگر اب وہ اسی رئیس المنافقین سے مل کر تحریک چلانے کے لیے صلاح مشورے کر رہی ہیں ، اسے دو عملی نہ کہا جائے تو کیا کہا جائے۔

ابھی تک پی پی نے کوئی احتجاج نہیں کیا جب کرے گی تو ضرور احتجاج کی خبر لگائیں۔

کب سے عرض کررہاہوں‌دوسرے تھریڈز پر کہ میں‌تو خود رابطے اور مفاہمت کے حق میں‌ ہوں۔ کیرٹ اور اسٹک سے اگر فوج قابو اجایے بغیر کسی فساد کے تو اس سے اچھا کیا ہے؟

ہمت علی مفاہمت کا حکومت کا کوئی موڈ نہیں وہ سیدھی اور صاف بدمعاشی پر اتری ہوئی ہے اور مفاہمت اور رابطے کا خواب اب کوئی دیوانہ ہی دیکھ سکتا ہے ویسے دیوانوں کو بھی ہوش کرنا چاہیے۔

حکومت کی کمینگی اس حد تک پہنچی ہے کہ وہ ڈش اینٹیا کی فروخت تک کو جرم قرار دے رہی ہے اور دکاندار کو گرفتار کر رہی ہے تو اس سے کس قسم کی مفاہمت اور رابطے کی توقع کر رہے ہیں آپ۔

جب عوامی ریلہ سامنے ہوتو مفاہمت کی سوج ہی جاتی ہے۔
یہ عوامی ریلہ کون نکال سکتاہے؟ اگر کوئی نکال سکتا ہے تو میں‌اس کے ساتھ ہوں۔
حقیقت یہ ہے کہ یہ صرف پیپلز پارٹی ہے۔

عوامی ریلا نکال سکتی ہے وکلا برداری اور اس نے نکال کر دکھا بھی جس کے پیچھے لگ کر پیپلز پارٹی نے سیاست کی اور یہ ابھی چند ماہ پہلے ہی کی بات ہے اور عوامی ریلے دیکھتے ہیں کتنے نکلتے ہیں۔

شاید اپ کی شکایت درست ہو کہ بے نظیر اقتدار چاہتی ہے اگرچہ یہ بھی اس کا حق ہے ۔ مگر یہ بات شاید رد نہ کرسکیں‌کہ پاکستان کے عوام کی اکثریت اب بھی بے نظیر کی حمایت ہی کرتے ہیں۔

یہ ہماری اکثریت کی سوچ ہی تو ہے ۔ جس نےآج ملک میں یہ دن دکھایا ہے ۔

سوچ کی تبدیلی اس وقت کی اہم ترین ضزورت ہے ۔

بار کونسلز میں عہدیداران کا تعلق پیپلز پارٹی سے بھی ہے اور اچھی خاصی تعداد ہے مگر باقی پارٹیوں سے بھی تعلق رکھتے ہیں۔ فی الحال وہ پارٹیوں سے بالاتر ہو کر بحالی جمہوریت کی تحریک چلا رہے ہیں۔

اعتزاز حسن کا تعلق پیپلز پارٹی سے ہے مگر بینظیر کا رویہ دیکھ کر باآسانی اندازہ لگایا جا سکتا ہے کہ وہ کتنی ہمدرد ہیں اعتزاز احسن کی۔ تاریخی کیس جیتنے پر مبارکباد تک پیش نہ کی۔

کچھ کہہ نہیں سکتا بی بی کب دوبارہ پانسہ پلٹے، کب شرفو مشرف سے مشرف بھائی بن جائے۔ لیکن آج پی پی پی کا کارکن روائتی رنگ میں نظر آرہا ہے۔

شرمناک احتجاج تھا آج پیپلز پارٹی کا۔

وہ پارٹی جس کے بقول بینظیر 30 لاکھ کارکن کراچی پہنچے تھے آج 30،000 بھی نہ پہنچ سکے بلکہ زرداری ہاؤس کے باہر جلسے سے پہلے تک 50،60 سے زیادہ لوگ نہ تھے۔

یہ فرینڈلی جلسہ صرف Face Saving تھا اور عوام کو یہ دھوکہ دینا کہ پیپلز پارٹی مشرف کے خلاف ہے جبکہ اندر کھاتے ان میں انڈرسٹینڈنگ ہے
