Though sceptical about the sudden manner in which the call for new provinces had become so popular and loud, Dr Ashfaq Ahmad, who has served as economic adviser to Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif, and General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, did not oppose the idea. Dr Kaiser Bengali, who regularly writes on socio-economic issues and helped set up Benazir Income Support Programme, also agreed that if all stakeholders agreed over the formation of new provinces, then they should proceed; all else would fall in line eventually.
